How does active aging help you?

Why me? Why now? – Functional Fitness is not just for 60-100 year olds.

Prevention is key. If you are a proactive middle-aged individual and are raising your eyebrows at some of your niggling signs of aging, don’t delay – call today.  Lynn has vast experience with older adults and views her work as preventative medicine.

Lay the foundation for active aging now, in your 50’s and 60’s, to ensure that you have the best opportunity to be fit some forty years down the line. Each workout is tailored to clients’ individual needs.

For years, my mother struggled with swollen legs. She wore compression socks, elevated her legs, walked, climbed stairs and went to exercise classes. The swelling fluctuated, but never went away. Then real trouble hit in her 87th year. The swelling got worse and eventually she developed ‘leaky legs’, which is when internal body fluids push through tight skin, resulting in ‘weeping’ legs. Wet legs, wet feet, wet socks, wet shoes, wet pants, wet bed sheets, wet floors (wherever she went)... day and night. It was horrible and it continued for many months.

Then Lynn arrived, and she brought us a miracle. Within a few weeks of a focused exercise regime, combined with the usual compression and elevation, mom’s legs dried up. We were astonished. Her doctor was astonished. And we all held our breath. That was in early June. Today it is December. The legs are still dry. And the swelling is markedly reduced.

There’s more. Those exercises targeted all parts of mom’s body. Before Lynn’s arrival, we had been watching mom slowly lose strength and balance. But with the exercises, which included daily walking, the decline in mom’s strength and balance not only stopped, it reversed, and her strength and balance improved. Today, simple things like getting on and off of the toilet, stepping into the shower, climbing in and out of a car, or stooping down to pick something off of the floor... she can do these things. Without Lynn’s help, I don’t think it would be the case.

Lynn had to leave us when she moved to another city. We were dismayed to lose her but some new home care folks (trained by Lynn) now do the daily exercises with mom. And the legs remain dry. And her strength and balance are doing ok.

Thank you Lynn!!

As a participant in Lynn’s classes, I find her so knowledgeable of the needs of seniors to enhance their life by maintaining their strength, flexibility and balance through the exercise program she provided. Most of all, it is so much fun. Sociability and brain exercises are all part of the classes. Lynn is dedicated, conscientious and loves her chosen profession. Functional Fitness

I have had the good fortune of having Lynn Penko in my life for the past four and a half years. Her enthusiasm, knowledge, explanations, and instruction were fabulous, so we always knew why we did “this” or “that” and how it would help us. At the same time she cautioned any participants with their various ‘incapacities’.
